Composer

She was born in México City in 1968 where she studied piano with Lea Levine and Marta García Renart. She later entered the Escuela Superior de Música where she studied piano with Ana María Tradatti and composition with Arturo Márquez.

Her later work in composition was with Ana Lara.

She has participated in composer workshops with composers Franco Donatoni, Theo Loevendie, Roberto Sierra, Javier Alvarez, Hebert Vázquez y Mario Lavista, Cristóbal Halffter, Toshio Hosokawa, Klaus Huber, Gilbert Amy and Mauricio Sotelo, among others.

Her works have been selected for performance in various festivals of new music, including the prestigious Manuel Enríquez Forum of New Music in México City and the Cervantino International Festival , In various occasions 

In October of 1999 the Arditti Quartet collaborated with Derbez during their Interpretation and Composition Workshop in the National Center for the Arts in Mexico City and recorded her Cuarteto No. 1. Her pieces has been played in the EEUU, Brasil, Holland, France, Germany, Italy, Canada, Spain, Finland, and Mexico. Her music has also been recorded by the Trio Neos, Ensamble Tres, Mexico woodwind quintet, Tempus Fugit Ensamble, and Integrales Ensamble from Hamburg among others She was awarded twice with a grant for young composeres from the Foundation for Culture and the Arts (FONCA).

Currently

She currently serves on Composition Faculty of the Superior School of Music of the National Center for the Arts in México City,and has been awarded again three times also (2004 and 2010, and 2014) with the prestigious grant from the FONCA, in order to enter the Sistema Nacional de Creadores.

Como conferencista ha sido invitada en diversas ocasiones a hablar de su música, así como de la música mexicana contemporánea, en diversos estados de la República, como San Luis Potosí (INBA) y Jalapa (Facultad de Música de la Universidad Veracruzana), Mérida, Oaxaca (CASA) así como en el extranjero, en España (Encuentro de Composición del Injuve) en Boston EEUU (Northwestern University) y en la Cornell University, Ithaca NY. 

She is also the Artistic Director of PUENTES a Spanish-mexican Festival of Contemporary Music,
